CTIA's TZM Alloy in Die Casting Dies

TZM Alloy in Die Casting Dies Picture

TZM alloy (Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum) is a high-performance molybdenum-based alloy with molybdenum (Mo) as the matrix and titanium (Ti: 0.40%–0.55%), zirconium (Zr: 0.06%–0.12%), and carbon (C: 0.01%–0.04%) additions forming TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases. Manufactured through powder metallurgy, followed by sintering, hot working, and precision CNC machining, CTIA’s TZM alloy is used for cavity inserts, die cores, punches, and other high-temperature load-bearing components in die casting dies. Featuring a high recrystallization temperature of approximately 1350–1450°C, excellent high-temperature strength, thermal fatigue resistance, creep resistance, and dimensional stability, TZM is suitable for high-temperature die casting of aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, copper alloys, and other metals.

Why Is CTIA’s TZM Alloy Suitable for Die Casting Dies?
Key performance advantages of CTIA’s TZM alloy include:

(1) Excellent thermal fatigue resistance: Maintains stable high-temperature microstructure and a low coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 5.5–5.9×10⁻⁶/K, reducing thermal cycling-induced cracking and dimensional changes during repeated molten metal filling, cooling, and ejection processes.

(2) Excellent high-temperature strength retention: Maintains good load-bearing capability under high-temperature die casting conditions, with a tensile strength of 600–900MPa, reducing deformation risks in cavity inserts and other critical components.

(3) Outstanding creep resistance: Improves high-temperature deformation resistance through TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases, with a tensile strength of approximately 500MPa at 1000°C, enabling critical die components to maintain stability under long-term heat and mechanical loads.

(4) Excellent high-temperature stability: Withstands molten metal erosion and continuous thermal exposure during die casting, supported by a melting point of approximately 2620°C and stable microstructure, improving component reliability.

(5) Excellent precision machining capability: Enables machining of cavity inserts, die cores, punches, sprue bushings, and other complex components, meeting die casting requirements for dimensional accuracy and assembly precision.

Applications of CTIA’s TZM Alloy in Die Casting Dies
CTIA’s TZM alloy is mainly used in:

(1) Automotive manufacturing: Cavity inserts, die cores, and localized reinforcement components in aluminum and magnesium alloy die casting dies, improving die stability under high-temperature thermal cycling conditions;

(2) Non-ferrous metal die casting: Critical die components exposed to high-temperature molten metal erosion, thermal cycling, and mechanical loads during aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloy die casting processes;

(3) Die casting die manufacturing: Die cores, cavity inserts, punches, sprue bushings, ejector pins, and other heat-resistant working components, meeting requirements for high-temperature strength and dimensional stability during continuous die casting operations;

(4) Aerospace and advanced equipment manufacturing: Heat-resistant die components and high-temperature load-bearing parts used in die casting of high-performance alloy components.
