CTIA's TZM Alloy in Piercing Machine

TZM alloy in piercing machine refers to TZM alloy piercing plug (Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum Alloy Piercing Plug), a critical tool component installed in piercing machines and mainly used for rotary piercing of metal billets at elevated temperatures. As a key part directly involved in metal deformation, the TZM alloy piercing plug withstands combined effects from rolling pressure, metal friction, and cyclic temperature changes. Its performance directly affects piercing machine operation stability, processing efficiency, and tool replacement cycles. CTIA’s TZM alloy piercing plug uses molybdenum (Mo) as the matrix with titanium (Ti: 0.40%–0.55%), zirconium (Zr: 0.06%–0.12%), and carbon (C: 0.01%–0.04%) additions to form TiC and ZrC strengthening phases. The material maintains high strength, excellent creep resistance, and stable microstructure at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for long-term operation in high-load piercing machines.
Advantages of CTIA’s TZM Alloy in Piercing Machine
The piercing plug must maintain dimensional stability under high temperature, high stress, and continuous friction conditions. CTIA applies nearly 30 years of experience in molybdenum and molybdenum alloy manufacturing and adopts powder metallurgy technology to produce TZM alloy piercing plugs through raw material control, uniform powder mixing, compaction and sintering, hot working, and precision machining. By controlling alloy composition, densification, microstructure, and machining accuracy, CTIA’s TZM alloy piercing plug provides the following advantages:
(1) Excellent High-Temperature Service Stability
With a melting point of approximately 2620°C, the TZM alloy piercing plug maintains good strength and structural stability in high-temperature piercing environments and adapts to thermal loads during continuous processing.
(2) Excellent Wear Resistance
The stable microstructure and high-temperature hardness retention help resist friction and erosion from high-temperature metals during continuous piercing operations, reducing surface wear and extending tool service life.
(3) Good Creep Resistance
The material effectively reduces plastic deformation under long-term high-temperature loading, minimizes dimensional changes of the piercing plug, and helps maintain piercing accuracy and product consistency.
(4) Reliable Thermal Stability
The low coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 5.5–5.9×10⁻⁶/K reduces thermal stress caused by temperature cycling and improves resistance to thermal cracking.
Applications of CTIA’s TZM Alloy in Piercing Machine
CTIA’s TZM alloy piercing plug is suitable for different piercing equipment and metal tube manufacturing applications, widely used in high-temperature tube processing for aerospace, energy, petrochemical, and mechanical manufacturing applications, including:
(1) Energy
Used in the production of high-performance metal tubes for power generation, nuclear energy, and energy equipment, meeting the requirements for piercing tool stability under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.
(2) Aerospace
