CTIA's TZM Alloy in Vacuum Heat Treatment

CTIA’s TZM alloy (Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum) is a molybdenum-based alloy with molybdenum (Mo) as the matrix and titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), and carbon (C) additions forming TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases, manufactured through powder metallurgy processes. Vacuum heat treatment usually involves heating, holding, and cooling cycles in low-oxygen or oxygen-free environments. The internal fixtures and structural components are exposed to high temperatures, thermal stress, and repeated temperature changes for long periods, requiring materials with excellent high-temperature strength, creep resistance, dimensional stability, and thermal cycling resistance. CTIA’s TZM products provide excellent high-temperature performance and thermal cycling stability, making them suitable for workpiece trays, support frames, positioning fixtures, load-bearing components, and other high-temperature tooling parts in vacuum heat treatment equipment.
Characteristics of CTIA’s TZM Alloy
CTIA manufactures TZM alloy through mature powder metallurgy technology and strictly controls material composition, microstructure, and machining accuracy to ensure stable performance during long-term vacuum heat treatment. TZM alloy features:
(1) Excellent High-Temperature Strength
With a melting point of approximately 2620°C, it maintains high load-bearing capacity under high-temperature conditions and effectively withstands long-term thermal loads and workpiece weight.
(2) Excellent Creep Resistance
It provides outstanding resistance to high-temperature creep, reducing tooling deformation caused by repeated heating and long-term holding processes and maintaining dimensional accuracy.
(3) Excellent Thermal Cycling Stability
With a coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 5.5–5.9×10⁻⁶/K, it reduces thermal stress caused by frequent heating and cooling cycles and provides excellent resistance to thermal cracking.
(4) Excellent Vacuum Compatibility
With low vapor pressure and low volatility, it maintains high-temperature chemical stability in vacuum or protective atmospheres and meets the requirements of clean heat treatment processes.
(5) Good Machining and Customization Capability
With good processing adaptability, TZM plates, rods, blocks, and other forms can be precision machined into customized structural components according to different equipment requirements.
Applications of CTIA’s TZM Alloy in Vacuum Heat Treatment
CTIA’s TZM alloy is mainly applied in vacuum heat treatment processes in aerospace, energy, electronics manufacturing, mechanical manufacturing, and other fields, including:
(1) Aerospace
Used for supports, fixtures, and load-bearing components during heat treatment of high-temperature alloys, titanium alloys, and other critical components.
(2) Energy
