CTIA’s TZM Alloy Rod

TZM Alloy Rod Picture

1. What’s TZM Alloy Rod?
TZM alloy rod, also known as titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy rod, is high-performance molybdenum-based alloy rod. It uses molybdenum (Mo) as the matrix and incorporates trace amounts of titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), and carbon (C) to form carbide dispersion-strengthened phases. The typical composition of TZM alloy includes Ti 0.40%–0.55%, Zr 0.06%–0.12%, C 0.01%–0.04%, with the balance being molybdenum.

CTIA’s TZM alloy rod is produced using high-purity molybdenum raw materials through powder metallurgy, which includes powder preparation, compaction, and vacuum sintering, followed by hot forging, rotary forging, and precision machining. These processes enable uniform distribution of TiC and ZrC strengthening phases within the molybdenum matrix, significantly improving high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and structural stability to meet long-term service requirements under high-temperature and high-load conditions.

2. Features of CTIA’s TZM Alloy Rod
(1) Excellent High-Temperature Strength
TZM alloy has a melting point of approximately 2620°C. Its room-temperature tensile strength typically reaches 600–900MPa and remains high even in high-temperature environments above 1000°C, making it suitable for high-temperature load-bearing structural components.
(2) Good Creep Resistance
The TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases formed inside the alloy effectively hinder grain boundary sliding and dislocation movement, improving resistance to deformation during long-term high-temperature service.
(3) High Structural Stability
TZM alloy has a recrystallization temperature of approximately 1350–1450°C. Its grain growth is effectively inhibited during high-temperature operation, allowing it to maintain excellent structural stability and dimensional accuracy.
(4) Excellent Thermal Properties
With a density of approximately 10.15–10.22g/cm³ and a coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 5.5–5.9×10⁻⁶/K, TZM alloy rod provides good thermal stability, thermal conductivity, and thermal shock resistance.
(5) Good Machinability
TZM alloy rod can be processed by turning, grinding, drilling, polishing, and other precision machining methods, making it suitable for manufacturing complex structural components.

3. Applications of CTIA’s TZM Alloy Rod
CTIA’s TZM alloy rod can be used in:
(1) Metal processing tools, including heat-resistant rods for piercing plugs, mandrels, and high-temperature tooling;
(2) Vacuum high-temperature equipment, including support rods, connecting rods, and load-bearing structural components in vacuum furnaces, heat treatment equipment, and sintering furnaces;
(3) Semiconductor and crystal growth equipment, including high-temperature support components and shaft components in single crystal silicon growth furnaces, sapphire crystal growth furnaces, and semiconductor thermal processing equipment;
(4) Precision high-temperature components, including X-ray rotating anode shafts, electrodes, and other high-temperature resistant shaft components.
