CTIA's TZM Alloy Piercing Plug in Metal Piercing

TZM alloy piercing plug (Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum Alloy Piercing Plug) is a high-performance molybdenum-based component manufactured through powder metallurgy. Based on a molybdenum (Mo) matrix, titanium (Ti: 0.40%–0.55%), zirconium (Zr: 0.06%–0.12%), and carbon (C: 0.01%–0.04%) are added to form TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases. With excellent high-temperature strength, creep resistance, wear resistance, and thermal stability, TZM alloy piercing plugs are widely used in metal piercing processes, serving as critical components exposed to high temperature, high pressure, frictional wear, and thermal shock during hot piercing of stainless steel, alloy steel, and high-temperature alloy seamless tubes.
Advantages of CTIA’s TZM Alloy Piercing Plug
(1) Excellent high-temperature strength and deformation resistance: Maintains structural stability under axial pressure and radial loads during hot piercing, with a tensile strength of 600–900MPa, reducing deformation risks under high-temperature conditions.
(2) Outstanding creep resistance and dimensional stability: TiC and ZrC dispersion-strengthened phases improve high-temperature deformation resistance, enabling stable dimensions during long-term high-temperature operation with a tensile strength of approximately 500MPa at 1000°C.
(3) Good wear resistance under high-speed friction conditions: Stable microstructure and high hardness reduce wear between the piercing plug and high-temperature metal billets, extending service life.
(4) Excellent thermal stability under thermal shock conditions: A high recrystallization temperature of approximately 1350–1450°C and a low coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 5.5–5.9×10⁻⁶/K enable stable performance during repeated heating and cooling cycles while reducing thermal fatigue risks.
(5) Good machining performance for precision structures: Supports precision machining of tapered surfaces, working ends, and complex structural areas, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface quality during piercing operations.
